Customize
This is a versatile copying mode that gives user control over almost all the content of the DVD output. You can copy specific title(s)/audio/subpictures and set defaults for playback, include or eliminate original menus, and specify title playback order to create a DVD with only the stuff you want! See the illustrations below. To make your backup bypass all the warnings and other startup material, click the "Jump to first menu when disc inserted"; to delete these items from your backup, click the "Remove Annoying PGCs" button (PathPlayer must be enabled and "Preserve Menus" must be checked). If the "No Menus" option is checked, your customized backup will start with the first title and the "Rewind When Done Playing" checkbox will become active. Use this to cause the selected title(s) to play in a continuous loop.
____
The first Customize screen is shown below. It allows the user to select titles and audio/subpictures to be included in the output, and select DVD-5 or DVD-9 output size. Note that if PathPlayer is enabled (as in this example) the titles will appear in playback order. When all selections are made, click the "Next" button.

The second Customize screen is shown below and has controls for content (top section), structure (middle section) and navigation (bottom), along with a text input box that allows a user-selected Volume name to be entered. The controls operate as described below. Some options on this page are inactive, depending on the content of the original DVD (e.g."Copy non-DVD Files") and DVDFab settings (PathPlayer must be enabled for some choices).
_____
- The content controls in the top ("COPYING") area allow the removal of non-video content from the backup. The top box (Copy DVD Video, the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder) is checked by default. "Copy DVD-Audio (AUDIO_TS folder)" is a future option that is not yet available, For the present, use Clone mode to copy a DVD-Audio disc. The third box ("Copy Non-DVD Files") will force DVDFab to include all non-video files in the backup, such as the JACKET_P folder or game or other interactive software. The default for this box is UNchecked, and the control will not be available if the original disc does not contain this type of content.
_____
- The middle area ("Removing") allows the user to prevent copying the DTS audio track if one exists. This will reduce the size of the backup files and result in slightly less compression. (The DTS track can also be removed by unchecking it on the first screen.) This area also contains the "Remove Menus" box (default: UNchecked) which will delete the DVD menus and enable the "Title Playback Order" button, which will allow user control of the playback order of the titles on the DVD. Removing menus will also reduce the size of the backup, requiring less compression when backing up a large movie to a DVD-5 disc. The "Rewind When Done Playing" checkbox will be active when menus are removed and will play the selected titles in a continuous loop when checked (default is UNchecked).
_____
- The lower area ("Navigation") allows you to change the way your backup copy behaves when put in a player. If PathPlayer is enabled, you can choose to have the player start at the main menu or jump to the beginning of the movie. The bottom box can remove many of the annoying short bits of video that precede the movie (like the FBI warning and copyright notices in 4 languages). This material is removed based on a complex rules test and is effective in most cases. The unpredictable structure of some DVDs make 100% success impossible in certain cases (see the note below for a fuller explanation). Just below this area is a text input box that allows a user-specified volume name to be used for the backup copy. You can highlight the text that appears in the box and substitute your own.
Remove Annoying PGCs
The success in removing annoying PGCs will vary depending on the structure of the DVD; here is the logic:
- 1. The PGC doesn't contains buttons.2. All cells' play time are less than 20 seconds.3. There is no cell command.4. There is no infinite still cell.5. The "skip to next program" operation is prohibited.
So, DVDFab will kill the playback of any PGC which matches the criteria. The logic is designed to catch most annoying PGCs without harming or deleting desired content, but the original DVD's structure or authoring may make this impossible in some cases. Some DVDs have the FBI/Copyright warnings as distinct titles, which this function will not automatically remove; use Preview and the title select checkboxes instead.
Tip:
To set default audio/subpicture on the first screen, you must first click Next and come to the second screen and check "Remove Menus". This will also enable the "Title Playback Order" button. Now click "Back" to return to the first screen and position the "Default Arrow". Those streams indicated by the small blue arrow will be used as playback defaults when the backup is played, so make sure your player supports them (e.g.DTS audio) before you select it as default. Subtitles will appear on screen without further user input on most players if a default subpicture is selected. In the example below, your backup will play with DTS English audio and Spanish subtitles.
